DAB

The digital transmission is made up of a string of one and zeroes. Since there are no frequency bands to stick to, that same signal can be sent out multiple times. This means that your radio has more chances to pick up the signal-making DAB radio for more reliable than its FM counterpart. It also has a wider variety of stations available. A disadvantage can be that the quality is not as clear as FM.


FM Radio

FM stands for Frequency Modulation, is one of the radio broadcasting systems in the UK. FM uses frequencies from 87.5 MHz. It can have a better sound quality than DAB but the signal is more prone for dropping in and out.


AM

AM stands for Amplitude Modulation (AM) is the oldest radio broadcasting system in the UK. The term AM is commonly used to cover both Medium Wave (MW) and Long Wave (LW).
All AM radio stations broadcast in mono and although both of these are still used, they are now considered to be very outdated.

AM radio broadcasting is in the 540-1610 kHz frequency band (in the Americas) with 10 kHz spacing between channels. AM technology modulates a carrier by varying the signal strength, not by frequency as with FM. For 30 years starting in the 1920s, AM flourished in the so-called "Golden Age of radio". However, starting around the late 1950s, FM's higher fidelity became popular for music listening. Most AM radio stations today broadcast news, talk, traffic and weather.


Chosen Radio station: The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show

Since I chose to investigate The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show, I chose to analyse it again to assess ways how a radio program might be distributed. 
This radio station / program is distributed via FM: 88.1 - 90.2 MHz, DAB: 12B, Freeview, Freesat, Sky, Virgin Media, Virgin Media Island, Astra 2E, Intelsat.

there are many ways that listeners can access this radio station, such as:

  1. Digital Radio: This method provides higher-quality sound and additional features, such as song information and images. There are several types of digital radio, including DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting), DAB+, and HD Radio.

  2. Online Streaming: Many radio stations now offer online streaming through their websites or mobile apps, allowing listeners to access the station from anywhere in the world.

  3. Smart Speakers and Voice Assistants: Radio stations can be accessed on smart speakers and voice assistants, such as Amazon Echo and Google Home, by simply saying a voice command.

  4. Mobile Devices: Many people now listen to radio stations through their mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets. This can be done through a variety of apps, including those provided by the radio station or third-party apps.

  5. Podcasts: Radio stations may also offer podcasts of their shows, which can be downloaded and listened to on-demand.

P5: Extract of planned radio programme

Offline edit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qK-yN_g7FE The offline edit for Hit & Run Radio was edited and split / cut on Adobe Audition and arranged accordingly in order. It was then imported into Premiere Pro to export as an MP4 and upload toYouTube. This edit was created to solely adjust and make sure that every segment of the radio programme is in the correct place. While doing this, we also ensured that the audio levels were fine and that we had no technical difficulties. If any issues were encountered, they were edited and fixed in Adobe Audition. Just as mentioned in the edit log, the programme only contained suitable recordings and was structured as planned. Prior to creating the final edit, I first created an offline edit. This allowed me to piece together the show and give a brief idea of how it would flow and come together. To do this, I used the script as a guide.
