P2: The focus of a chosen radio station

P2:

For P2, I will be explaining the structure of a radio station and will be looking into an example of a real radio station to research.

Types of programming

- Music

- Current events

- News

- Lifestyle

- Chat


Music:

Music radio is a type of radio programme and is also the main content for broadcasting. There are several types of music radio stations that all play different genres of music to fit their target audience better. Music drives radio technology, and has introduced the rise of music streaming services such as Spotify. Music radio stations are there to entertain listeners.

Music radio stations vary from other radio stations, as it mainly consists of music rather than other content. Though it may include some aspects of dialogue, news, etc. it's main theme is still music.


Current Events:

For radio stations that talk about current events, they would most likely be community radio stations (as they can tailor their news and information to fit the area in which it applies to their listeners). radio stations that discuss currents events would fall into the inform category, as it is a form of news.

These radio stations will most likely be non-profit as they might be popular amongst community radio stations. Current event radio stations vary from other radio stations, as it is there to inform the local area rather than to play music or fall into any other themes of radio station.


News:

News radio stations purpose is to educate and inform the listeners. These radio stations are most likely going to be public commercial radio stations, meaning that it includes frequent advertisements (national commercial radio). News radio stations would be aimed at an older audience, such as social grades C1 and C2.

News radio stations can vary from other genres of radio stations, as they can tailor their news to match the area.


Lifestyle / Chat:

I have combined these 2 categories as they are relatively similar and share very similar aspects with each other. This category of radio is aimed more towards music fans and younger people, as it is less focussed on news. This form of radio station is there to entertain.

This sort of radio stations differentiates to others due to it being more focussed on dialogue and discussion, rather than music and news.

P5: Extract of planned radio programme

Offline edit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qK-yN_g7FE The offline edit for Hit & Run Radio was edited and split / cut on Adobe Audition and arranged accordingly in order. It was then imported into Premiere Pro to export as an MP4 and upload toYouTube. This edit was created to solely adjust and make sure that every segment of the radio programme is in the correct place. While doing this, we also ensured that the audio levels were fine and that we had no technical difficulties. If any issues were encountered, they were edited and fixed in Adobe Audition. Just as mentioned in the edit log, the programme only contained suitable recordings and was structured as planned. Prior to creating the final edit, I first created an offline edit. This allowed me to piece together the show and give a brief idea of how it would flow and come together. To do this, I used the script as a guide.
